When You Feel Unseen
Have you ever found yourself in a season of life where you are surrounded by people and still feel alone? I found myself in one of those quiet places recently—the kind where the smile stays on your face, but deep down your heart aches. It wasn’t about anyone doing something wrong; it was simply a season that felt heavy, a time when I wondered if anyone really noticed.
That quiet ache of feeling alone can be hard to put into words. It’s the kind of loneliness no one else may see, but you feel it deeply. And in that hidden place, I began to whisper questions to God: “Do You see me here? Do You notice?”
The Visitor on the Ledge
The sparrow caught my attention from the moment it landed on my window ledge. At first, I thought little of it—other than the fact that it made me smile. It was just a bird, after all. But then it stayed. All day. And then the next day too. Before long, I realized it wasn’t just a passing visitor—the sparrow kept coming back, stopping by day after day. I couldn’t help but pause and watch it, noticing the way it tilted its head, the way it simply lingered near.
My heart was filled with unexpected joy and peace as I realized this was more than coincidence. It was one of those special God moments—when He speaks so tenderly and personally. That sparrow became a quiet reminder from the Lord Himself: “I see you. You are not forgotten.”
His Word, His Song, His Whisper
Not long after, my mind went straight to Jesus’ words:
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care… So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
— Matthew 10:29–31
Luke’s gospel says it this way: “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6–7)
I had read those verses so many times before, but in that moment, they felt alive—personal. That little bird on my window became God’s living illustration that His eyes are always on me.
And as if on cue, the words of an old hymn began to hum in my heart:
“His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.”
It was more than a lyric; it was truth echoing deep in my soul. In my hidden place of loneliness, God reminded me through His Word, His song, and His whisper: I am seen. I am known. I am loved.
When Your Heart Needs Reminding
Maybe you’ve been there too. Maybe you’ve walked through days when you’ve felt unseen, unheard, or tucked away in the shadows of life. If so, friend, I want you to hear this: you are not invisible to God. His eye is on the sparrow—and His eye is on you.
In seasons of loneliness, we need reminders of His presence. Here are a few gentle steps that have helped me, and I believe they can steady your heart too:
- Pause and notice. God often speaks through the smallest things—a bird at your window, a verse that comes to mind, a moment of quiet beauty. Don’t brush those reminders away.
- Open His Word. The Bible isn’t just ink on a page. It’s living, breathing truth. In still moments, God’s promises can anchor your soul and remind you that you are deeply loved.
- Reach out. Sometimes all it takes is one trusted friend, a simple text, or even journaling your heart to the Lord. Bringing what feels hidden into the light makes room for His comfort to enter.
You don’t have to “fix” the ache overnight. But you can take one small step, trusting that God sees you right where you are. Let this be your reminder: God has not forgotten you.
You Are Not Forgotten
If His eye is on the sparrow, how much more is it on you? You are not just seen—you are cherished, valued, and held close by the God who never looks away.
That little sparrow still comes to my window from time to time. And every time it does, I’m reminded again: God’s care is ongoing. His reminders aren’t one-time moments; they are daily whispers of His love.
So when your heart begins to wonder if you’ve been overlooked, remember the sparrow. Remember the promises of His Word. And rest in this unshakable truth: you are never forgotten.
A Prayer for You
Father, thank You that Your eyes are always on me. In the moments I feel hidden or unseen, remind me that I am deeply known and dearly loved. Help me notice Your daily reminders of care, and give me courage to rest in Your promises. Let my heart find peace in knowing that if Your eye is on the sparrow, then surely, Your gaze is on me.
