Job 8:21: “He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.”
We are all living in a different season. Many of us are in a season of disappointment, we have loved ones with health problems, or we’ve lost a family member or a friend; maybe we have lost employment or even our home!
For some of us, living in this season will be the first year celebrating and participating in past traditions, or even new traditions, without our loved ones by our side. Having to continue to live life as you did before but knowing it’s not how it was before. This is when it’s important for us to remember that laughter is medicine to our spirit, soul, and body. Ever since I was saved, I heard — laughter is the best medicine!
Have you lost your joy in the midst of so many difficult times? Is laughter a rare occurrence for you during this season?
Proverbs 17:22 is true—A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
There are spiritual, emotional, and many physical benefits of joy and laughter.
Science even understands why the Bible tells us to laugh—it’s good for our health! Laughter reduces stress, fights against depression, and sorrow, and can bring a positive perspective on life and the season we’re in.
Laughter can put you in an all-around good mood. It can even lower blood pressure, prevent heart disease, and so many more benefits. We should laugh every day!! If you need the joy in your life to be restored, then renew your mind with some scriptures about joy and laughter.
I have been going through some tough times this past year! I had to put on joy!!
Every time I speak the word, my joy and laughter come back, and my disappointments and struggles fade away.. (not gone but not my focus). My circumstances may be the same, but my joy will not be stolen!!!
These are the scriptures I stand on to restore my joy and stir laughter in my spirit!!
Genesis 21:6: “And Sarah declared, ‘God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me.’”
Psalm 30:11: “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy.”
Psalm 96:12: “Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy.”
Psalm 98:4: “Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!”
Psalm 126:2: “We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, ‘What amazing things the Lord has done for them.’”
Proverbs 15:13: “A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.”
Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
Isaiah 55:12: “You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands!”
Proverbs 17:22: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”
When you renew your mind with the Word and study joy and laughter, you will find yourself focusing more on what brings you joy and how to overcome the things you cannot change or understand.
Don’t isolate yourself!
Remember the silly things you have done or even what your friends have done, it will make you smile. We all need to laugh intentionally —Laughing on purpose isn’t the same as laughing for a purpose. we can all laugh when something is funny to us, but when you are sad or having a difficult time, purposely laugh, even if you have to make yourself. This can change the course of your life!
Here are a few stand-up comedians I have gone to see, years later I still think about some of the things they shared, which will make me smile- Chonda Pierce and Mark Hankins, have a way of teaching us how joy and laughter will turn things around in our life.
Watch a funny movie or call a friend that makes you laugh!
