Worship is Our Weapon

Praise is a spiritual weapon against the enemy. When we resist the enemy, he will flee from us (James 4:7). Since God inhabits our praises, the enemy will take flight. Darkness must depart in the presence of Light.

Also, praise is what we do to secure victory in any battle; by engaging in praise, we transfer our battles to Him (2 Chronicles 20:20-24). It is a God-given weapon in our hands with which to humiliate the devil.

When God gave Joshua his marching orders, the Lord leaves no doubt that he is the one giving them the city. Jericho, and all the land, belong to the Lord. He and he alone has the power to grant them to his people. So God’s instructions to Joshua don’t have anything to do with besieging the city. God tells them they will take the city through worship.

2 Chronicles 20 tells us how King Jehoshaphat led the people of Judah into battle with singing. As the people worshiped their enemies fought among themselves and destroyed one another.

Acts 16 records how Paul and Silas were thrown into jail in Philippi. That night Paul and Silas sat with their feet in the bands and sang songs of praise. God sent an earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed. And the jailer got saved.

Praise your way to victory. It confuses the enemy and it allows God to demonstrate His mighty power on your behalf. Stand still and receive your miracle.

Amalek Fought is another war won by praising.. this story shows how we need each other, God will always equip us with what we need. This often includes our family and friends.

8Then Amalek [and his people] came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek [and his people]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the hilltop. 11 Now when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and when he lowered his hand [due to fatigue], Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy and he grew tired. So they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other side; so it was that his hands were steady until the sun set. 13 So Joshua overwhelmed and defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this in the book as a memorial and [g]recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly wipe out the memory of Amalek [and his people] from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and named it The Lord Is My Banner; 16 saying, “The Lord has sworn [an oath]; the Lord will have war against [the people of] Amalek from generation to generation.” Exodus 17:8-16

Everyone’s battles look different. Your battle could be that your company is changing management, fear of not knowing how everything is going to work out!!, or maybe your loved ones are moving out of state! It could be the loss of a loved one, your marriage, having your children not serving God! Or maybe your battle is that you need a job, your finances, or maybe healing. There are so many things we face.

Satan is searching for whom he may devour, and he is a very patient devil.

When we face our battle–sometimes we are tempted to fight the war with our own weapons. We struggle with our flesh when we fight with our own knowledge. These are not the weapons God has equipped us with for battle. We have an enemy–satan and the spiritual forces of darkness that stand in opposition to God and his people. We can’t win that battle by fighting on his terms. God gives us a different set of weapons to use. Prayer, Testimony, Worship, The Word of God, and the precious blood of Jesus by which we have already won the victory. We can’t win our battles the world’s way. We win through following God’s battle plan. We win by worshipping. Chains and bondages are broken through worship.

God has already given us the victory–a victory won not in battle but on the cross. Stand in obedience on the truth of his word. Bathe your battle in prayer. Listen to stories of victory, and move forward in worship. Then look to see what God will do–for he is faithful.

For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.  Deuteronomy 20:4 (NIV)

I have had to remind myself of this several times during my life as a believer – Praise is our weapon. We need to take our battles to the Lord in worship He wins every time!!
