When I find myself in the midst of trying circumstances, in lack, or in the middle of a storm, my tendency or temptation (and I think it is with most people) is to put my eyes on the current troubling situation. But I find that when I purposefully focus my attention in prayer on the Lord and His word instead, that is when my faith is activated and circumstances change. They may not change immediately, but they will. And God gives unsurpassable peace in the waiting, if you will give Him all your worries and cares.
Of all the attributes of God, one I am most grateful for is His immutability, or unchangeableness. God will never change in His nature, His ways, or His promises. God’s word is filled with so many promises. We can count on Him not to change His mind about any of them. Can you imagine if God one day changed His ways about how mankind is saved? John 3:16 would mean nothing, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
It’s hard to imagine God changing the way we are saved, isn’t it? Because then He wouldn’t be God! It’s the same for all of the other promises in the Bible too.
Whenever I’m going through a hard time, I go to His word to find promises about my situation. When I’m not feeling well, I Peter 2:24 is a go to verse for me, “…by His wounds you are healed.”
I want to encourage you to go to God’s word and find scriptures, promises from God, that will speak to what you’re going through. You can even do an internet search. And if you want to take it a step further, memorize some of them. Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
