Jesus Our Sure Foundation

With everything going on in our world, we need a sense of security more than ever and the only true security comes in our relationship with Jesus. One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 33:6, “He shall be the security and stability of your times.” Like the old hymn says, “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”

Jesus makes it clear that just because we are believers, we are not immune from storms. Matthew 7:24-25 says, “Therefore anyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. And the rain descended and floods came, and winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.” Storms will come, but if we hear and act upon God’s words, we will still be standing when the storm is over.

Storms will come, but if we hear and act upon God’s words, we will still be standing when the storm is over.

Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” This clearly means we will have trouble! But the psalmist goes on to say, “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.” No matter what we face, God is with us!

Jesus said in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” He had said earlier in John 15:18-19 that part of the tribulation we face is because we are not of this world and the world hates us. “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

If you stand up for what you believe in and stand up for the absolute truth of the word of God in this contentious season, the world will hate you. The light in us exposes the darkness and the enemy of our souls wants to silence our voice and dim our light.

The light in us exposes the darkness and the enemy of our souls wants to silence our voice and dim our light.

We must be prepared for the persecution that will come with standing up for our beliefs, but we can know that Jesus is standing with us.

The enemy will not give up on his attacks against us, but I Peter 5:9 gives us encouragement. “Take a decisive stand against him and resist his every attack with strong, vigorous faith. For you know that your believing brothers and sisters around the world are experiencing the same kinds of troubles you endure.”  You are not alone in your faith. Others have faced the same things, but overcame as they stood strong in their stability in Christ.
